Senior Project Plans

I'm comfortable both on a set and in a writer's room

I'm of a few different minds about this. I've looked at the Senior Projects UVU displays on their website, and they're predominantly documentaries, with one comedy pilot and one kind of "inspirational"-type content video. I'm also told that the Senior Project involves a whole year with a class dedicated to working on the project, with other students in the class helping with the project to some extent. Despite being told that I can pursue almost anything, the college's preferences seem pretty clear, and I don't want to make something that's not actually watchable as my senior project.

But I think I've arrived at something that could be creatively exciting, stretching, and require the amount of time given and the assistance of my peers, mentors, and friends. Although I'd like to write a feature-length script or maybe create a documentary, I think the thing that would be most expedient for this project would be writing a series bible and pilot, and then maybe even a season's worth of episodes.

This may sound ambitious, but I've already written four or five treatments for TV shows in my life, the first one at sixteen. And in addition, I'd like to write one based on a pre-existing book property, which would minimize some of the basic creative struggles at the outset. While legally I wouldn't be able to produce it without permission from the creators, so far as I know these projects aren't going to make any money, so it wouldn't break any rules. And despite everything I've said, I've never written multiple scripts for a treatment. I think the challenge to adapt material into an episodic format, dramatize character and plot visually instead of internally, and compensate for budgetary or practical concerns in a hypothetical shooting process would be practice aplenty in the fields of writing, producing, directing and more. And the practice script-writing would be more room for me to hone my skills and entertain.

I've still got time to think about it, and I'm flexible to others' input, but I think this would best fulfill all the project requirements and push me creatively without overreaching. But we can talk about that later.
